Core Motivation

If you’ve ever played multiplayer games, you’ve probably noticed that there are different playing styles. Some stick to mastering the same characters, while others experiment with various options. Some excel at uniting the team, while others prefer to play the hero.

While it may seem like something as simple as a game, these behaviors reflect nearly every aspect of our lives, from our careers to our relationships. At the root of it, our actions stem from deep psychological needs—specifically, the four primal human desires: variety, certainty, belonging, and significance.

Motivation is the fuel necessary
to keep the human engine running.

In Personality Ninja, these desires are embodied into four distinct Classes. Explorers crave for variety while Builders long for certainty. Leaders yearn for belonging while Evolvers strive for significance. Although we may experience all these desires at different moments of our lives, only one will stand out as our dominant desire.

At their core, Chiefs are of the Leader Class, striving to make life better for those around them. And by Leaders, we don't mean it as ranks or positions, but simply those who prioritize the needs of others. More specifically, Chiefs are Leaders who seek Effectiveness. They want to discern what works best for others, figuring out the most effective ways of solving people's problems.

Chiefs as Leaders

In times of crisis, Leaders are the dependable force that people rally around. Known for their people-centered approach, they build cohesive, resilient teams that stand strong under pressure. Leaders guide their teams toward shared goals by bringing out the best in each individual, all while ensuring that no one is left behind. As Leaders, Chiefs provide a stable backbone, holding their teams steady through even the most challenging trials.

Leadership is not a rank or a position, it is a choice—a choice to look after the person to the left of us & the person to the right of us.

Simon Sinek

Leaders often take the initiative to organize projects that empower their teams. Chiefs as Leaders understand that a shared vision and unified goals bring the team together, enabling every member to contribute to the group. Always seeking ways to drive progress in their teams, they aim to create something that extends far beyond themselves.

While generally accommodating, Leaders often grow frustrated when dealing with self-centered individuals. They firmly believe that strong, interconnected communities are essential for creating meaningful impact. To them, individual agendas are counterproductive, disrupting synergy, eroding trust, and slowing collective momentum, ultimately derailing efforts toward shared goals.

Leaders are prepared to make sacrifices if it means moving the team forward. They remain dedicated and committed to their teams, regardless of the challenges they face. To them, true satisfaction does not come from personal recognition. Instead, it comes from witnessing the team's achievements and the positive effects of their collective efforts. Their greatest sense of fulfillment is knowing they have contributed to something that benefits everyone involved.

While Chiefs are part of the Leader Class, they are also supported by the Builder Subclass. When we refer to Builders, we’re not talking about literal construction workers; instead, we mean individuals who focus on refining what they know. More specifically, Chiefs are Builders in pursuit of Insights. They aim to understand the world at its core, simplifying complex ideas into their most fundamental concepts.

Effectiveness By Building On Insight

Builders have long been the backbone of our societies, providing support in every way they can. They are always ready to establish structure in their communities, bringing a sense of stability to those around them. No matter how tough times may get, Builders will always be there to hold the fort, as they are usually prepared to face any obstacle that stands in their way.

In a world filled with endless choices, Builders narrow them down, focusing on what they think is the most worthwhile. Though sometimes other options may interest them, they know that they will never reach their destination if they keep straying off the main road. To truly succeed, one must commit, which is why Builders will always give their best to one path. Otherwise, all their efforts will amount to nothing.

Failing to plan, is planning to fail.

Builders dislike it when things don't go according to plan. This drives them to prepare for many possibilities, so that they are always ready to deal with the worst case scenarios. To them, uncertainty is like walking in the dark, the lack of preparation will only cause them to trip and fall. As such, Builders are always planning ahead of time, as it is always better to be safe, than sorry.

Ultimately, commitment is what separates those who make it and those who don't. Builders believe that nothing can ever be achieved without perseverance. To them, life is not a sprint, but a marathon where they must run steadily and continuously to win the race. As such, Builders choose a path and dedicate themselves to it. They aren’t known to give up until they reach their goals, inspiring others to do the same.

All in all, Chiefs are Leaders who build upon their deep insights to push their communities forward. Based on their core motivation, each specific archetype possesses a distinct set of traits, giving birth to their own unique strengths and weaknesses.

Nevertheless, the themes covered thus far are merely the tip of the iceberg. To understand more about Chiefs and discover their unique journey of growth, let us explore the next section where we will analyze the dominant aspects of the Chief archetype.
