Observer

Observer belongs to one of the two Type Focuses in the NXT personality framework. If you are new or unfamiliar with this topic, do refer to the Introduction of Type Focus for more information.

Overview

Observing Functions are Perceiving Cognitive Functions, used in making observations by examining the world for knowledge.

As such, Observers tend to focus on areas relating to phenomena, most noticeably on the form and nature of things, all of which are discerned through observations.

Observers will have an Observing Function as their Dominant Function. Observing Functions consist of Extraverted Sensing (SE), Extraverted Intuition (NE), Introverted Sensing (SI), and Introverted Intuition (NI).

To provide greater clarity and understanding of the descriptions above, below are the key definitions for the specific terms used.

Key Definitions

Definition of Observer:
A person who prioritizes observations over decisions.

Note: To clarify, Observers make both observations and decisions. They merely focus more on the former.

Definition of Observation:
The knowledge obtained through examining, primarily centered around phenomena.

Note: Observation in this context does not imply a scientific recording of data, but merely knowledge obtained regarding something. As observations must originate from an occurrence or situation, observations tend to revolve around phenomena-related matters.

Definition of Perceiving:
Obtaining an observation through the process of examining.

Note: Perceiving is an original term coined by Carl Jung to explain the function of Sensing and Intuition. Perceiving in this context is not related to the meaning adapted in Myer-Briggs Type Indicator, which implies a spontaneous and flexible personality. Perceiving is also not associated with the negative connotation of being messy, carefree, and irresponsible.

Definition of Examining:
Inspecting the details and attributes of a subject.

Note: Examining in this context is not a stringent, systematic investigation, but a mental process that occurs in the mind. Through the process of examining, an individual can obtain an observation.

Definition of Knowledge:
Information or understanding, obtained from experience or research.

Note: To clarify, knowledge in this context is not associated with being knowledgeable and intelligent.

Definition of Phenomena:
Things or occurrences in general, more specifically about the knowledge regarding their form and nature.

Note: Everyone is concerned with problems relating to phenomena to an extent. However, Observers are relatively more affected by such matters.

Thematic Details

Within the fictional world of Mochiverse, the Type Focus of an individual is represented by the ninja’s headgear. Observers are comprised of the Explorer Class or Builder Class, both represented by their own unique headgear.

Observers who are of the Explorer Class wear a headgear that looks like the tip of a flame, while Observers who are of the Builder Class wear a headgear that is in the shape of a rounded square.
