THE OFFICIAL NXT DEFINITIONS

Leader

Leader belongs to one of the two Type Strategies in the NXT personality framework. If you are new or unfamiliar with this topic, do refer to the Introduction of Type Strategy for more information.

Overview

Leading Functions are Extraverted Judging Cognitive Functions, used to attain a sense of belonging by evaluating the collective views of others.

These Cognitive Functions are extraverted as they involve forming relatively objective decisions that prioritize the most compelling opinions based on the diversity of judgments from others.

As such, Leaders tend to focus on others, most noticeably by prioritizing the community's development and cohesion, all of which contribute to a life with a sense of belonging.

Brief technical description: Leaders desire to attain a sense of belonging by prioritizing the collective views of others.

Leaders will have a Leading Function as either their Dominant Function or Supportive Function. Leading Functions consist of Extraverted Thinking (TE) and Extraverted Feeling (FE).

To provide greater clarity and understanding of the descriptions above, below are the key definitions for the specific terms used.

Key Definitions

Definition of Leader:
A person who prioritizes Leading to fulfill their desire for belonging.

Note: A leader is a common term for a head of a group or community, but a NXT Leader refers instead to a person who consistently prioritizes the group's advancement over their own.

Definition of Leading:
Prioritizing the needs of others by focusing primarily on the group's development.

Note: Leading includes, but is not limited to: checking for the opinions of others, reaching group consensus, and forming groups or communities.

Definition of Extraverted:
Referring to a psychological orientation that is centered around the objective viewpoint of one's outer world.

Note: Extraverted is a term originally coined by Carl Jung. Extraverted in this context is not to be confused with the typical understanding of an extravert, such as being outgoing, loud, or someone who occupies the spotlight.

Definition of Objective:
Based on the non-personal interpretation of matters.

Note: An impersonal interpretation is not equivalent to an accurate or better interpretation, but merely one that is more detached from the individual.

Definition of Belonging:
Connection with people, usually gauged through the acceptance, recognition, validation, affirmation, or appreciation from others and in communities.

Note: Most people will want to feel accepted or included at some point in their lifetime. However, Leaders have a relatively greater and constant desire to gain a sense of belonging.

Derivative Traits

As mentioned above, Leaders focus on making objective decisions by evaluating the world externally with opinions from others. As such, various characteristics can be expanded upon this core trait to understand it better.

To illustrate an experiential depiction of a Leader, here are some possible derivative traits that are commonly reported from individuals of this Type Strategy.

  1. Strives to meet community standards in order to gain validation from others.
  2. Prioritizes the group's decisions, even if it means going against their own personal opinions.
  3. Desires group coherence, and as such, dislikes individuals who insist on their own ways.
  4. Turns outward to gather feedback and support from others when faced with difficulties.
  5. Shares stories that are centered on others as they feel uncomfortable talking about oneself.
Note: As these are some possible derivative traits, a person of this Type Strategy will either display some or most of the attributes above, with differing frequency and intensity.

Thematic Details

Within the fictional world of Mochiverse, the primary Personality Class of an archetype is represented by the ninja's headgear. In particular, Leaders have a headgear that looks like a beret.

Example of ninjas who are of the Leader Class.

The reason for this design choice is to hint at the uniformity of an army unit, signifying a Leader’s desire for their communities to develop an esprit de corps by working as a team. As such, it captures the primal desire of Leaders who seek a sense of belonging.
