THE OFFICIAL NXT DEFINITIONS

Sensor

Sensor belongs to one of the two Type Outlooks in the NXT personality framework. If you are new or unfamiliar with the topic, do refer to the Introduction of Type Outlook for more information.

Overview

Sensing Functions are Explicit Perceiving Cognitive Functions, used to discern the most tangible facts by examining concrete realities.

These Cognitive Functions are explicit as they involve forming relatively denotative observations that prioritize the most interesting perceptions derived from real-world phenomena.

As such, Sensors tend to focus on what is concrete, most noticeably on details and evidences that are trackable in reality, all of which are forms of data and facts.

Brief technical description: Sensors want to discern the most tangible facts by prioritizing concrete realities.

Sensors will have a Sensing Function as either their Dominant Function or Supportive Function. Sensing Functions consist of Extraverted Sensing (SE) and Introverted Sensing (SI).

To provide greater clarity and understanding of the descriptions above, below are the key definitions for the specific terms used.

Key Definitions

Definition of Sensor:
A person who prioritizes Sensing by making observations that are concrete.

Note: Everyone is capable of detecting physical sensations, but Sensing for a NXT Sensor is specifically tied to processing concrete realities.

Definition of Sensing:
Processing concrete realities by focusing primarily on details and data that are factual.

Note: Sensing includes, but is not limited to: noticing tangible details, providing factual data, and tracking physical experiences.

Definition of Explicit:
Specific or exact without room for ambiguity.

Note: Daily interactions may comprise of both explicit and implicit information. However, those with Sensing or Thinking Functions as their top two functions will focus primarily on explicit information.

Definition of Concrete:
Actual and tangible, existing only in physical reality.

Note: Apart from physical entities that are evidently concrete, data and statistics are also considered to be concrete, as they refer to tangible facts that have been collected and recorded.

Definition of Denotative:
Describing the literal description or representation of something rather than the implied meaning or representation.

Note: For example, the word "cold" would literally mean something absent of heat, instead of the implied meaning of someone being emotionless.

Definition of Fact:
Things that are proven to be true in reality, usually without any attached meaning to it.

Note: People tend to use common phrases such as "it's a fact" or "the fact is". However, it does not necessarily mean that they are providing a fact, but merely implying that they are certain of something.

Derivative Traits

As mentioned above, Sensors focus on making observations that are concrete by examining the world for knowledge consisting of denotative facts. As such, various characteristics can be expanded upon this core trait to understand it better.

To illustrate an experiential depiction of a Sensor, here are some possible derivative traits that are commonly reported from individuals of this Type Outlook.

  1. Examines the sensory details in order to determine the nature of an object or occurrence.
  2. Prioritizes the physical properties and attributes over the abstract meaning of things and events.
  3. Assumes that if the facts are clearly proven then the idea will eventually form itself.
  4. Prefers to carry out concrete actions without having to understand all the ideas behind the actions.
  5. Often takes examples from actual facts or experiences in order to prove or explain their observations.
Note: As these are some possible derivative traits, a person of this Type Outlook will either display some or most of the attributes above, with differing frequency and intensity.

Thematic Details

Within the fictional world of Mochiverse, the Type Outlook of an archetype is represented by the primary color of the ninja, which also denotes the ninja's village. Sensors, who belong to either the Earth or Water Village, are represented by the color green or blue.

Example of ninjas who are Sensors.

Sensors who combine with Thinking are green in color, representing the Earth Village, while Sensors who combine with Feeling are blue in color, representing the Water Village.
