ID Expressive

ID Expressive belongs to one of the four Type Styles in the NXT personality framework. If you are new or unfamiliar with the topic, do refer to the Introduction of Type Style for more information.



Overview

Expressive Type Style is the behavioral outcome of the Interacting and Directing Type Drives, operating together to prioritize making objective decisions by evaluating externally with opinions from others, while balancing both objective and subjective observations by examining for both unfamiliar and familiar knowledge.

To put it briefly, those who are Expressive have a higher tendency of leading others based on both new and known information.

These individuals frequently utilize their Leading Function, as both Interacting and Directing Type Drives require this function. As such, the behavior of the Leader Personality Class becomes relatively more prominent among those of this Type Style.

To provide greater clarity and understanding of the descriptions above, below are the key definitions for the specific terms used.



Key Definitions

Definition of Expressive:
Behaving in an outgoing and outspoken manner, preferring to convey thoughts or feelings to others.

Note: People with the Expressive Type Style may not have a Leading Function as their top two functions, but they will still display behaviors of a Leader that are relatively more prominent compared to those of the similar archetype.

Definition of Interacting:
To act in a way that prioritizes others while focusing on the unknown.

Note: Interacting includes, but is not limited to: initiating discussions, exchanging new information, and collaborating with others.

Definition of Directing:
To act in a way that prioritizes others while focusing on what's known.

Note: Directing includes, but is not limited to: organizing group activities, executing plans, and managing long-term projects.

Definition of Leading:
Prioritizing the needs of others by focusing primarily on the group's development.

Note: Leading includes, but is not limited to: checking for the opinions of others, reaching group consensus, and forming groups or communities.

Definition of Objective:
Based on the non-personal interpretation of matters.

Note: An impersonal interpretation is not equivalent to an accurate or better interpretation, but merely one that is more detached from the individual.

Definition of Subjective:
Based on the personal interpretation of matters.

Note: A personal interpretation is not equivalent to an inaccurate or worse interpretation, but merely one that is more attached to the individual.

Definition of Unfamiliar:
Outside of an individual's usual experiences or awareness.

Note: Unfamiliar relates to the desire for variety as it introduces something that is new, creating a sense of curiosity.

Definition of Familiar:
Within an individual's usual experiences or awareness.

Note: Familiar relates to the desire for certainty as it repeats something that is known, creating a sense of security.


Derivative Traits

As mentioned above, those who are Expressive have a higher tendency of leading others based on both new and known information. As such, various characteristics can be expanded upon this description to understand it better.

To illustrate an experiential depiction of an individual who is Expressive, here are some possible derivative traits that are commonly reported from individuals of this Type Style.

  1. Tends to be outgoing, preferring to spend more time engaging in group activities.
  2. Often focuses on the thoughts or feelings of others in order to gain a clear understanding of the group's opinions.
  3. Knows more about others than self, seemingly representing others.
  4. Prefers to listen to other people's judgment as they are uncomfortable with deciding on their own.
  5. May feel lost and insecure about their own personal direction in life as a result of being too focused on others.
Note: As these are some possible derivative traits, a person of this Type Style will either display some or most of the attributes above, with differing frequency and intensity.
