THE OFFICIAL NXT DEFINITIONS

Explorer

Explorer belongs to one of the two Type Perspectives in the NXT personality framework. If you are new or unfamiliar with this topic, do refer to the Introduction of Type Perspective for more information.

Overview

Exploring Functions are Extraverted Perceiving Cognitive Functions, used to discover a variety of unknown things in the world by examining varied and new occurrences.

These Cognitive Functions are extraverted as they involve forming relatively objective observations that prioritize the most appealing phenomena identified through a diverse range of perceptions.

As such, Explorers tend to focus on expanding knowledge, most noticeably by prioritizing the pursuit and discovery of what is new, all of which contribute to a life of variety.

Brief technical description: Explorers desire to discover a variety of unknown things in the world by prioritizing varied and new occurrences.

Explorers will have an Exploring Function as either their Dominant Function or Supportive Function. Exploring Functions consist of Extraverted Sensing (SE) and Extraverted Intuition (NE).

To provide greater clarity and understanding of the descriptions above, below are the key definitions for the specific terms used.

Key Definitions

Definition of Explorer:
A person who prioritizes Exploring to fulfill their desire for variety.

Note: An explorer is a common term for someone who scouts uncharted areas, but a NXT Explorer refers instead to a person who consistently prioritizes discovering something new over perfecting what they know.

Definition of Exploring:
Prioritizing what is new by focusing primarily on discovering a broader range of information.

Note: Exploring includes, but is not limited to: trying different approaches, acquiring new knowledge, and seizing interesting opportunities.

Definition of Extraverted:
Referring to a psychological orientation that is centered around the objective viewpoint of one's outer world.

Note: Extraverted is a term originally coined by Carl Jung. Extraverted in this context is not to be confused with the typical understanding of an extravert, such as being outgoing, loud, or someone who occupies the spotlight.

Definition of Objective:
Based on the non-personal interpretation of matters.

Note: An impersonal interpretation is not equivalent to an accurate or better interpretation, but merely one that is more detached from the individual.

Definition of Variety:
Diversity in the world, usually gauged from the flexibility, variability, novelty, uncertainty, or open-endedness of phenomena.

Note: Most people will want a sense of novelty or spontaneity at some point in their lifetime. However, Explorers have a relatively greater and constant desire to gain a life of variety.

Derivative Traits

As mentioned above, Explorers focus on making objective observations by examining the world externally for unfamiliar knowledge. As such, various characteristics can be expanded upon this core trait to understand it better.

To illustrate an experiential depiction of an Explorer, here are some possible derivative traits that are commonly reported from individuals of this Type Perspective.

  1. Prefers a dynamic and open-ended way of life, thriving in chaos rather than order.
  2. Favors freedom of information, preferring to have a variety of options that could offer unexpected new things.
  3. Desires novel perspectives or approaches, disliking predictable schedules or routines.
  4. Seeks for various new knowledge and understanding when encountering difficulties.
  5. Explores various differing topics, rarely sticking to only one topic.
Note: As these are some possible derivative traits, a person of this Type Perspective will either display some or most of the attributes above, with differing frequency and intensity.

Thematic Details

Within the fictional world of Mochiverse, the primary Personality Class of an archetype is represented by the ninja's headgear. In particular, Explorers have a headgear that looks like the tip of a flame.

Example of ninjas who are of the Explorer Class.

The reason for this design choice is to hint at the spontaneous nature of fire, signifying an Explorer's desire to uncover the unknown by diving freely into uncharted territory. As such, it captures the primal desire of Explorers who seek a life of variety.
