Introduction
Type Drive is the subsequent topic to Type Perspective and Type Strategy. If you are new to these topics, do refer to their introductions to gain a more comprehensive understanding of Type Drive.
Overview
As mentioned previously in Type Perspective and Type Strategy, there are a total of four Personality Classes: Explorer and Builder fall under Type Perspective, which determines one's observations, whereas Leader and Evolver fall under Type Strategy, which determines one's decisions.
This section, Type Drive, will delve into how an individual's Type Perspective and Type Strategy pair up to determine their recurring behavioral tendencies. As people prioritize the four primal human desires differently, each individual will have a unique pairing of their top two desires. This preference determines their Type Drives.
There are two different primal human desires under Type Perspective, which can be paired with either of the two primal human desires under Type Strategy. This gives rise to the classification of four Type Drives: Reflector (R), Analyzer (A), Interactor (I), and Director (D).
Reflector
Reflectors (R) are individuals who have Builder and Evolver as their top two Personality Classes. As a result of this combination, they tend to focus on refining known information for themselves.
These individuals have a Building Function and Evolving Function among their Dominant and Supportive Function. This means that either Introverted Sensing (SI) or Introverted Intuition (NI) will be paired with either Introverted Thinking (TI) or Introverted Feeling (FI).
Analyzer
Analyzers (A) are individuals who have Explorer and Evolver as their top two Personality Classes. As a result of this combination, they tend to focus on discovering new information for themselves.
These individuals have an Exploring Function and Evolving Function among their Dominant and Supportive Function. This means that either Extraverted Sensing (SE) or Extraverted Intuition (NE) will be paired with either Introverted Thinking (TI) or Introverted Feeling (FI).
Interactor
Interactors (I) are individuals who have Explorer and Leader as their top two Personality Classes. As a result of this combination, they tend to focus on exchanging new information with others.
These individuals have an Exploring Function and Leading Function among their Dominant and Supportive Function. This means that either Extraverted Sensing (SE) or Extraverted Intuition (NE) will be paired with either Extraverted Thinking (TE) or Extraverted Feeling (FE).
Director
Directors (D) are individuals who have Builder and Leader as their top two Personality Classes. As a result of this combination, they tend to focus on repeating known information with others.
These individuals have a Building Function and Leading Function among their Dominant and Supportive Function. This means that either Introverted Sensing (SI) or Introverted Intuition (NI) will be paired with either Extraverted Thinking (TE) or Extraverted Feeling (FE).
Mechanism
Although the Cognitive Functions have their individual processes, they can also operate as pairs to bring about specific traits as described above. These pair of functions must be a combination of an Observing Function with a Deciding Function.
Under Type Drive, the Observing and Deciding Functions are paired together to form the four Type Drives. Depending on which Type Perspective and Type Strategy one prioritizes, it will form a Function Pair that falls under the individual's top two functions.
For example, the Specialist archetype who prioritizes Building and Evolving has a Building and Evolving Function among its top two functions. As such, these two functions are paired together to bring about the Reflecting Type Drive.
In contrast, the Advocate archetype who prioritizes Exploring and Leading has an Exploring and Leading Function among their top two functions, paired together to bring about the Interacting Type Drive.
Everyone carries out all four Type Drives to an extent, only in different order of priorities, with their first Type Drive determined by their top two functions. However, unlike the first Type Drive, the following Type Drives are not fully dependent on the order of one's functions. This will be explored further in Type Style.
